Things are changing....my boy is growing up.

Some day's when I wake up, I look at the photo on our dresser of Jacques snuggling with his helpless little premature 4 lbs baby boy and wonder 'where on earth has time gone?' Things are changing fast and I'm SO excited but in other ways I want to slow down and embrace these changes.

Noah's birthday money has been 'burning' a hole in his pocket. He spent 1/2 of it last weekend and the other 1/2 is in his bank for our summer vacation....but WAIT! NOW he does not want to spend money for our summer vacation and wants to use this money, combined with saving his weekly allowance to save up for an ELECTRIC GUITAR!

We explained that it will take a while for him to save, but with hard work he can do it. He then said 'can we do a garage sale?'. I said 'sure'. And he said, 'can we do it tomorrow?' LOL Ummm, not likey....he wants to sell everything he has 'just' for this guitar.

Will he make it to the end of his 'savings plan'? I hope so, because I think it will be an excellent life lesson for him. I'm rooting for him, but based on his track record - I'm not so sure. But then again, like I said things are changing and fast....

That said, he HAS had a few weeks of regretting a variety of 'cheap' purchases with his small weekly allowance. He is slowly learning that some good things come to those who wait (isn't this a truth we've all learned over our years) and these good things 'may' have to be saved for!!

A few years ago, Grampa (my dad) gave Noah an older 6 string acoustic guitar (that presently only has 5 strings) that frequently comes in & out of his consciousness. That was until recently...

For the past few weeks, he has been dragging the guitar (that is now decked out in approximately 50 Pokemon stickers) EVERYWHERE he goes.
  • He gets up in the morning and comes downstairs - with the guitar in hand.
  • He watches TV - with the guitar in hand.
  • He has his shower - and leaves the guitar out side the shower.
  • He goes to bed - with the guitar in hand.
He is certainly proud of the guitar 'he got from his Grampa'. He has decided that once his Piano lesson books are done (if we continue through the summer, he should be finished by September) he'd like to take Guitar Lessons.

I am REALLY excited about my little musician slowly evolving. Especially because I come from a VERY musical family (even though I was only blessed with the ability to play the spoons). I believe he's got this ability in his blood (from farther down the line) because it certainly doesn't come directly from me!!!

So today (a PD day from school) we are going out to purchase a guitar stand to house his 'wild' acoustic guitar from his Grampa....a very exciting day in our house.

Like I said, things are changing and my boy is transitioning into 'big boy' stuff. AND, believe it or not, I'm embracing these changes and am okay with them!
