Homemade Advent Calendars

Last Monday, was a(nother) day off school and we got crafty in our house getting ready to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas....we made homemade Advent 'boxes'! For 2 and a 1/2 hours, Noah and his best friend, Zach completely focused on one thing - making their envelopes.

My job:
I created 25 pages (one page for each day of the month to be opened daily) that included:
  • a Bible Verse (relating to Christmas)
  • a Christmas Carol and
  • a spot to include a Christmas Inspiration or Tradition to be done or talked about

Boys job:
Decorating a set of 25 envelopes (each) with stamps, stickers, glitter markers.

While Noah rushed through, placing lots of stickers & a few stamps on his envelopes.......

Zach took his time, placing every stamp & sticker in the 'exact' spot....

The end result was 50 envelopes that I stuffed each envelope with the corresponding pages I had created for each day.

Once the boys completed their envelopes and I stuffed them, we placed the envelopes (in order) in the 'Advent Boxes'.

Each day, we open the envelope for that day, we read the Bible verse, sing (oh, and we dance sometimes too while singing) the Christmas carol and discuss a special memory or tradition about our Christmas - all the while, celebrating everyday the TRUE meaning of CHRISTmas!!

And all of this cost me about $6 from the dollar store and my time spent with some really happy kids making MORE Christmas traditions.......

Tara,

You should send me your bible verses that you used and maybe I can do this with Mathieu next year. You are so great with that stuff. I wish I could have the time to spend with Mathieu like you do with Noah. I miss you lots. It's been a tough fall.

Luv ya, Janice Belliveau
