Observation

I witnessed something the other day that made this mama so proud.  I'm not really sure how to write about it to convey my deepest feelings, but I'll try my best.

It all happened when while Noah had a friend over.  This friend is so sweet, and just like every other child in public school, he is following in the other children's trends and attitudes.

Now don't get me wrong, Noah has lots of attitudes of his own - BELIEVE ME!!!

But when it came to the fashion trends, that apparently many of the children have been following this year, Noah just couldn't get it and wasn't shy to share that with his friend!

It was cute to witness, considering last year when Noah was in public school he was the FIRST one to follow in the latest trends & attitudes. 

It was cool and relieving to see this new found confidence that had been COMPLETELY depleted at the end of last year in Grade 3!

Man, do I ever love watching my boy grow and mature!  Such a blessing.

You wanna hear something funny?

Well - it's not THAT funny (unless you have a twisted mind like my husband)!!!

So last night, I asked him to pick up his laptop off the floor or someone would trip over it.

This morning, when I got downstairs the laptop was picked up in front of my laptop, the cables were dangling and the laptop tray was still on the middle of the floor.

When I got up to go to walk through, and GUESS WHO tripped over the cable of the laptop???

ME & MOI !!!

To SAVE his work laptop from crashing to the floor, I performed a tricky maneuver that ended in my BIG TOE crashing to the ground resulting in a broken toe (or I am 99% certain it is)!!

After about 30 minutes of it throbbing, turning colours and greatly swelling, I hobbled up the stairs to tell him what had happened.

And what did he do?   LAUGH

Can you possibly imagine that lack of compassion??

But then again, so did I!  We've been laughing ever since, making songs about it and having some fun!

A real natural.

He's a real natural.

He's super sensitive.

Really caring.

Very tender and loving.

Extremely excited about baby's.

Completely shocked me!

Made me super proud.

I just can't believe it, considering he has not ever held a baby or even been around a baby!

Tuesday, we babysat for a friend of mine (who is also the baby sister of a friend of Noah's).

As soon as she got here, Noah was very anxious to get his 'hands on her'!  As soon as she woke from her car seat, I handed her to him.  He held her, talked to her and snuggled with her.  How dare he?   I had to fight him for some snuggles of my own, with this sweet little pumpkin!!!

As you can see, he's a real natural.  He watched TV, while playing with his iPod (finding Evva music she'd like), while snuggling AND amusing her with her little caterpillar toy each time the music would stop!

He even fed her some of her bottle, and was VERY proud to have done it!

Funny though when she made a big, stinky poop for me he didn't want anything to do with that!!!

Then, when it was time for a nap he just HAD to have her and continued to snuggle with her after she fell asleep!

It truly made me teary eyed and very proud to see my baby's excitement with a 2 month old.

Several times throughout the day, he referenced his excitement about having a baby sister come into our family.  How excited he was to cuddle with her, protect her and teach her!  That said, if he could have an older brother this would be his preference!!!

What a boy!  So proud of you buddy!

Life on hold....

This is how I'm feeling today!

First, I'm tired of coughing, having pulled a muscle in my back from coughing so much.

Second, I just found out today that we can not update our home study until we are fully residing in Ontario.  This means, until we get moved our adoption is completely on HOLD.

Not a great feeling...AT ALL.

The way I thought it was going to happen was that we'd get our home study updated, our file all up-to-date and have our dossier (our pkg of information) all ready to go to Vietnam upon our arrival in Ontario.  This way, from the moment we arrived in Ontario we'd be on the official waiting list (I think I have this right??).  Having a (possible) couple year wait from this date - possibly less considering we are on the special needs list.

NOW...we will have to start all of our file ONCE we move (which at best will happen in the summer months of 2011, at worst Sept 2011) - which means that we will wait and CAN do nothing for 8-11 months :(  Frustrating, to say the least.

I feel a little defeated right about now.  I KNOW I am NOT defeated, just ON HOLD.  I know much of this feeling probably comes from being under the weather and I just DON'T sit still very well.  I have a hard time taking care of me. 

So, the newest news in our adoption is that we must WAIT, even longer than originally anticipated :(

Sick of sick...

...is a complete understatement!

It's been 8 days now of being full on sick. 

Last week, I was in bed each day for 4 of the 5 days.  This weekend, I had to push myself to make it through the Craft Show.

So Monday, I got into the doctor and (again) I have acute pneumonia, am on a powder puffer and antibiotics.  It's crazy, really!  But apparently, being a smoker for so many years had done some damage to my lungs, causing them not to get rid of simple colds very easily (and these simple colds turning into bronchitis, then acute pneumonia.

Knowing being on the mend on my short term horizon, I'm feeling rather impatient to feel 100% again. 

Luckily, considering we home school we have some flexibilities.  So this week, I declared a NO SCHOOL week (except for math) in order to get completely better and to spend some time with my boy!

So far, we've watched tonnes of shows:  Elf, Men in Black 1 & 2, The Karate Kid, The Little Rascals, Lots of episodes of the Road Runner and more to come! 

It's been a relaxing week and I know I will feel better soon, thankfully!

While resting on the couch with a fever and an upset stomach, I heard the most beautiful sound coming from upstairs.

New Halloween Traditions

For the last few years, Noah has not 'really' enjoyed getting dressed up and trick or treating.  We end up shopping for and buying a costume that he would end up wearing for a matter of 20 minutes or so, then he would want to come home and eat his candy.

He doesn't like 'make up' on his face, or gel in his hair so there is only 'so' many costumes we can choose for him.  Costume shopping was always an invitation to get into an argument - because he would want the most expensive one and I would NOT want the most expensive one because I knew he would not wear it long enough.

A few years back, I started offering him the option of being 'bought out'.  He kept saying 'no', I think because Jacques would end up convincing him that he really wanted to go trick or treating.  Then, Halloween night would roll around and he'd go out (with his father) and they'd be home in less than 30 minutes.

To me, he always seemed to have more fun handing out the treats than he did getting dressed and trick or treating.

SO....this year, I was able to 'buy him out'!!!  YAY  Instead of the costume, Noah got to pick out a new WII game!

The boys went away for a father-son weekend trip this weekend.  They returned home on Halloween Day.

Upon their return home, I had made a treat bag for each of them loaded with their favourite goodies!

After they opened their treat bags, we ate a light supper (cuz we didn't want to fill ourselves up on 'good' food when there were all these goodies to enjoy). 

We ate our treats while watching home movies of Noah's 1st, 2nd & 3rd Halloween's!  Noah got to be in charge of handing out the treats to the kiddies at the door, and loved every minute of it.  Each time he saw a friend come to our door, he proudly told them that he got 'bought out' for this Hallowed EVE then would come bouncing downstairs to continue watching our home movies, while we cuddled on the couch.

I LOVE my family and the time I spend with them!  This new tradition is so much fun!
